POINTS

At ZEB we make staples in 5 point types: Chisel, Divergent, Needle, Blunt and Outside Chisel.  Not all staples are available in all points.

Chisel – This is the most popular in the industry.  Each tip of the staple is cut on the sides to provide a middle point (like a V).  This is the standard industrial product point.  This point drives straight and is required in clinching applications and long leg penetrations.

Divergent – This is one of our specialties.  We make the sharpest divergent points in the industry.   One side of the staple is cut on the front and the other side is cut on the back, providing a sharper angle for each point, and offering better penetration than the chisel point in most applications.  Also, the staple will penetrate and then slightly twist offering improved holding power.

Needle – This is one of our specialties.  It is like a divergent point, except having a sharper angle.  To be a true needle point, it must be without burrs (unwanted edges of metal).  Typically used on very fine wire staples, such as 25 gauge and thinner.  It is used especially in fabric and garment applications where the presence of burrs might create pills in the fabric, and must be avoided.

Blunt – This is a squared-off tip.  It is common in office staples.  Some feel that the square cut offers an improved penetration in multiple sheets of paper, functioning more as a punch than a separator, as a chisel point would.

Outside Chisel – This is a chisel point with the tip of the point near the inside of the staple, so the bevel is mostly outside the point area.  This is good for clinching applications where the stapler throat is not long enough, so a simple back plate is used to provide a hard surface against which the staple legs will automatically clinch to the inside.
